Single Device – Dual Mode Communication

PointerCept is a hybrid telemetry system developed for improved security, theft prevention and recovery of vehicles, assets and cargo, while utilizing dual mode communication technology including Cellular communication across 2G/3G* networks and a backup, one-way RF communication beacon.
The hybrid telematics end unit is installed in a vehicle or other mobile asset and continuously monitors security and operational parameters, establishing a cellular communication session with the backend whenever required. Upon failure to report a security compromise to the backend due to a jammed channel, server unavailability or lack of coverage during a predefined time, the device starts a periodic RF-beacon status transmission, while checking whether cellular communication can be reestablished. The periodic RF transmission is received by a network of sparsely deployed fixed and/or mobile receivers, spread in the area of coverage and connected to the backend through 3G cellular communications.

  • Jamming immunity – the RF channel enables transmissions from the end unit and successful reception in the receiver, even in a jammed environment.
  • Location technology – location is based on an embedded GPS or on RSSI and big data analysis.
  • Last mile chasing after a stolen vehicle is executed using a mobile chasing device.
  • Cost-effective deployment due to a modular system which can include fixed receivers (PointerCept Base) and/or mobile receivers (PointerCept Wheeler and PointerCept Mobile) to suit every coverage need – from a small city to nationwide.
  • Cellocator end unit can detect the jammer and automatically move to beacon mode.
  • PointerCept system building blocks include:
    • PointerCept Base – a fixed receiver / RF-Gateway installed in a permanent location (such as communication towers, lamp post or building rooftop), connected to an AC power source (via a 24V power supply).
    • PointerCept Mobile – connected to the vehicle power with the Omni antenna attached to the vehicle roof via a magnet and used by the chasers. For last-mile scenarios carried out on foot, the mobile receiver can be disconnected from the vehicle power, connected to the Yagi antenna and carried in a unique carrying bag.
    • PointerCept Wheeler – installed in a mobile platform (usually a vehicle) while connected to a 12/24V power source (the vehicle battery), with the Omni antenna attached to the vehicle roof via a magnet. It can be used with fleets that have vehicles spread over a specific area in order to receive and transmit data to the back-end.
    • PointerCept Chaser Application – The PointerCept Chaser application enables real-time indication of the RSSI and location(if available) of chased vehicles for last mile chasing and pinpointing.
